Rattan and material for weaving

Rattan – natural material for making small decorations, baskets, trays and other products. Weaving from rattan is a popular creative activity, for which we offer a complete range of rattan, as well as all accessories in the form of Styrofoam models.

Rattan is one of the most widely used material for weaving wicker products. All variants of rattan are made of inner part of palm tree called ‘Calamus rotang’, which originates in India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, from where it is widely exported to the whole world. There is about 600 species of rattan, but only two to three species are used to produce rattan for weaving. These species suitable for rattan production are grown mostly from artificially planted plants.

Its popularity is growing even in the Czech Republic, where many creative people are involved in weaving. There is number of reasons why to reach for a rattan when weaving:

1. It has excellent flexibility and is also durable

2. Its thickness is uniform

3. It is simply dyed, with the paint being relatively constant over time

4. It is suitable for weaving small decorations (bells…) also for weaving baskets and trays
